Efficient Renovation
This grant aims to promote business customers renovations which enhance the thermal envelope of buildings.
The goal? Improve the energy efficiency of buildings and reduce energy costs.

Grants
Improve your building’s thermal envelope

The work may include:
- Replacing windows
- Improving the insulation of walls and roofs
- Sealing the building (removing air leaks)
The work must lead to an improvement in energy performance compared with what prevailed before the renovation work.

Grant – Efficient renovation
Calculation of the grant
For windows and walls:
- $70 per square metre of eligible windows and walls renovated (=6.5 $/pi²)
- up to a maximum of 15% of the total cost of purchase and installation.
For roofs:
- $8 per square metre for the renovation of an attic roof (=0.74$/pi²) and $25/m2 renovated for any other type of roof (=2.32$/pi²)
- up to a maximum of 15% of the total cost of purchase and installation.
For sealing
- $8/m² of floor area affected by the blower door tests (=0.74$/pi²)
- up to a maximum of 75% of the total cost of blower door tests and sealing


This grant is for current or future Énergir customers2 who:
- Operate in the commercial, institutional, industrial or multi-unit housing (four or more units) sectors.
- Use natural gas as the energy source for heating the building. If more than one energy source is used for heating the building, natural gas must represent at least 30% of the energy consumed for heating OR be a dual-energy customer.3
- Plan to improve the building envelope. The work involves: Insulating the building, replacing the windows, sealing the building (removing air leaks).
For renovations

2. Complete and submit Form I – Declaration of Intent to [email protected] before the work begins5.
3. In the case of sealing work, conduct a blower door test before the work.
4. Carry out your work.
5. After the work, complete and submit Form II - After work, accompanied by proof requested .
Énergir will analyze your file and will contact you, if necessary. If the project is judged to comply with program requirements, Énergir will advise you accordingly and issue a cheque.
For buildings of more than 2,000 m2
1. Consult the:
- Participant’s Guide in effect for complete details, including the performance criteria to be exceeded.
- Guide for Preparation of Energy Savings Evaluation Report, which details the information needed and includes the calculation methods for each type of renovation.
2. Select a consulting engineering firm to assist you with your project. The firm must be on the list of registered firms and only an engineer who is a member of Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec will be responsible for determining energy savings.
3. You or the consulting engineering firm you select will send us all the documents needed to review your application. It must submit your application to Énergir before the work begins5.

Renewable Natural Gas: Your Ally for Decarbonization
Did you know that you could replace some or all of your natural gas purchases with renewable natural gas? This 100% renewable energy source allows you to reduce your fossil-based GHG emissions quickly and without any equipment changes.

Conditions
- Projects aimed at insulating roofs and/or walls must show an improvement in energy performance compared with what prevailed before the renovation work.
- A contract must have been signed with your Commercial Representative and an Énergir account number assigned in order to benefit from the financial assistance offered.
- This condition (dual-energy) must be verified during the 12 months following the end of the renovations.
- The total amount of the grant may not exceed 100,000$ per fiscal year per Énergir account number (a project may include more than one type of measure). Requests for less than $500 are not eligible.
- It is essential that you complete and submit your Declaration of Intent (Form 1), by which you inform Énergir of your intention to participate in the program, before starting the work. The start of work corresponds to the date the first contract covering the renovation project is signed. The percentage of energy savings is calculated based on the annual reference consumption for heating.
Énergir reserves the right :
- To modify or end the program without prior notice.
- To interpret the conditions of the program.
- To accept, refuse, or adjust the energy savings from any of the measures proposed by customers or other parties.
- To limit the number of projects when the budget envelope reserved for the program is depleted.
