18- Renewable natural gas supplied
RNG consumption is based on the service address. Its price is set annually as part of the Rate Case. The amount associated with your RNG consumption corresponds to the ratio that you selected.
19- Sozialisation fee
the socialization fee is a charge to spread the costs associated with unsold renewable natural gas (RNG) volumes among the voluntary customers.
Énergir has a regulatory obligation to deliver a certain amount of RNG in its system (2% in 2023, 5% in 2025 and 10% in 2030). So if customers don’t voluntarily purchase enough RNG, Énergir has to make up the shortfall, socializing the volume from customers not purchasing the minimum amount required by the regulation.
Socialization fee is applied for each billing cycle in fiscal 2025, to Energir customers who do not have 2% or more of RNG in their purchase profile.
Socialization fee is reviewed each year on the basis of unsold RNG volumes in relation to the RNG volumes required in the annual injection targets and filed annually in the rate case with the Régie de l'énergie.
20- Transportation
This is the service that sends the natural gas through pipelines from the production sites to Quebec , the territory served by Énergir. The transportation prices are modified when Énergir transportation suppliers modify their own prices. We bill this service at the same price as what we pay the transportation companies.
21- Load-balancing
Load balancing is the management of natural gas storage and variations between summer and winter consumption. The price of this component is adjusted annually, in early October. Énergir bills load balancing at the same price we pay our suppliers for load-balancing tools.

22- Cap-and-Trade System
The emission allowance cost for the natural gas combustion, which varies each month. Cap-and-Trade System is an economic tool of the Québec government aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Fuels consumed in Québec are covered by the Cap-and-Trade System through energy distributors like Énergir. The sums collected will be invested by the government in, among other things, measures aimed at combating climate change.
23- Distribution
The price of the natural gas delivery service throughout the Énergir distribution network is adjusted annually. The rate is assigned based on your consumption and applicable to the general, stable or interruptible services. Énergir derives its earnings solely from this component of your bill.
The price of the general distribution service is the sum of two components:
- Basic fees: the fixed portion of the bill. They are determined by a rate that varies according to annual consumption and are billed by the meter based on the number of days in the billing period.
- Unit price by volume withdrawn: a variable component of the bill. It is applied to the volume withdrawn during the billing period. The unit price decreases as the volume increases.
Equal payment plan (EPP)
Instead of managing monthly payments that fluctuate with your natural gas consumption, balance your energy budget throughout the year with our Equal Payment Plan (EPP).
- Advantages of the Equal Payment Plan (EPP):
- Balance your natural gas consumption budget throughout the year.
- Pay the same amount every month, based on your annual natural gas consumption and average temperatures for the past five years.
- Avoid paying a high balance at the end of your EPP period – we track your monthly consumption through the year and adjust your payments if necessary.
