Énergir and municipalities

Énergir is present in more than 340 municipalities in Quebec and is a key ally in their energy transition and economic development. Through our decarbonization solutions or our proactive approach to developing innovative energy projects with municipalities (like the supply chain for renewable natural gas), our team of experts can advise you and help you meet your needs.

We are also a valuable partner for municipalities in managing public spaces for urban infrastructure networks.

Agreement between the municipalities and Énergir

Agreements have been signed with the Union des municipalités du Québec (UMQ) and the Fédération québécoise des municipalités (FMQ) for the management of public spaces for urban infrastructure systems.

Path to 2030: Our decarbonization vision

Quebec is in greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction mode, and Énergir is already taking action. Our vision includes concrete measures—energy efficiency, dual energy, renewable natural gas—that enable us to play a decisive role in addressing climate, economic and social issues for our customers and Quebec. Our decarbonization vision aims to significantly reduce the volumes of fossil natural gas distributed, and to gradually make the remaining volumes renewable.

Decarbonization as a common goal

We share and encourage the goal of decarbonizing municipalities. In the building sector, we aim to reduce the GHG emissions of the buildings we serve by 30% by 2030, with a view to making the sector carbon neutral by 2040.

Safety and prevention

Natural gas is a safe energy source. However, it’s important to follow basic safety measures and maintain the equipment properly. At Énergir, the network is monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Over half of our employees work on activities related to planning, maintaining, repairing and developing the gas distribution system. These experts have a single focus—ensuring a reliable, uninterrupted, safe supply of natural gas.
