ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager (ESPM) is an interactive and free resource management tool that enables you to benchmark the energy use of any type of building in Canada, all in a secure online environment.
Track the energy performance of your buildings with ESPM
ESPM was created by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States to make it easier to manage and track energy data via a single platform. It was then adapted by Natural Resources Canada (NRC) for use in Canada.
It is used by many building energy consumption data disclosure initiatives in the United States and Canada. In fact, the City of Montreal has included ESPM as a tool in its By-law concerning GHG emission disclosures and ratings of large buildings.
How do you share your energy consumption data with ESPM?
- Create your ESPM account
- Go to the ESPM website and create an account. - Connect your ESPM account to Énergir's online services
- Under contact in your ESPM account, open Énergir’s online services
- During your first session, select the properties that you want to link
- Select "Add your meter"
Log into your Énergir Customer Space to:
- Find all of your Énergir account information
- View your bills
- Consult the ESPM Account Creation Guide and your credentials in the Consumption section

What data can be shared with ESPM?
- Natural gas consumption data (in m3)
When you authorize the link between your ESPM and Énergir accounts, only your natural gas consumption data (in m3) will be sent automatically to the tool every month.
- Renewable natural gas (RNG) consumption data (in m3)
This functionality will become available in fall 2023.
For now, the consumption data provided to ESPM represents your natural gas and RNG consumption.
- Billing information ($)
If you want to add your billing information ($) to your ESPM account, you must input it manually.
Are you an owner or manager but not an account holder?
If you are not an account holder, we can’t share account information with a third party that isn’t authorized to receive the information. Énergir must comply with the requirements set out in the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.
