Let’s innovate together
Énergir seeks to identify and develop new solutions, technologies and innovative approaches that make more efficient use of natural gas for its customers.
Your project may be eligible* if there is a high level of uncertainty or risk associated with one of the following:
- Energy performance
- Technical and economic feasibility
- User acceptability or integration
Submit your project for one of the following energy efficiency topics:
Solutions that integrate digital intelligence
Efficient natural gas technologies
Innovative renewable energy projects
Other types of projects sought
Solutions for identifying energy efficiency measures, deploying an advanced energy management system or optimizing building and process control and maintenance.
Natural gas heat pump technologies or high-efficiency hybrid systems.
Innovative renewable energy solutions that complement the use of traditional natural gas; heat recovery measures for waste heat and energy loop design.

Grants for experimental projects
Receive up to 75% of the cost of your experimental projects
Experimental projects are those where the innovation tested is not yet ready to be implemented in the field.
We offer up to 75% of the cost of experimental projects, to a maximum of $25,000.*
Grants for demonstration projects
Receive up to 75% of the cost of your demonstration projects
Demonstration projects are those where the innovation being tested is ready to be implemented in the field. The demonstration stage normally comes after the experimental stage.
We offer up to 75% of the cost of demonstration projects, to a maximum of $250,000.*
- Organizations based in Quebec or elsewhere in North America can submit a project.
- Innovation applies to all markets: Residential, Business, Institutional and industrial, Agriculture and Transportation
- The project must not qualify for other subsidy programs under Énergir’s Global Energy Efficiency Plan.
- The solution must be repeatable and have the potential to save energy.
- One of the following aspects must not have been tested yet in Quebec: Energy performance, Profitability and Applicability
- Refer to the Participant’s Guide in force for complete and detailed information on the program and its conditions, as well as Innovation project eligibility criteria.
- Once you have reviewed the program requirements and information, fill out the grant application form.
- The Energy Efficiency team will assess your application and contact you.
ESA, from the idea to the market
The start-up ESA had an idea: develop a new heat exchanger for heating poultry houses. Impressed by their innovation and the potential energy savings for our natural gas customers, Énergir awarded the project a grant as part of the Innovation Program.

Renewal natural gas: your decarbonization ally
Thought about powering your efficient equipment with renewable natural gas?
You can replace part or all of your natural gas consumption with renewable natural gas (RNG).
This 100% renewably sourced energy reduces your GHG emissions from fossil fuels quickly, without your needing to change equipment.
Conditions
* Projects submitted must include an innovative technology or approach, or the use of renewable energy in complementarity with natural gas. Projects must present a solution for the more efficient use of natural gas. Refer to the Participant’s Guide for program conditions and eligibility criteria.
