Efficient renovation
Buildings consuming more than 150,000 m³/year and greenhouses
This grant aims to encourage making renovations that will improve the thermal envelope of buildings that consume more than 150,000 m³ of natural gas per year, along with greenhouses. The goal? To improve energy efficiency and so reduce energy costs.
The work may include replacing windows, and/or improving the insulation of walls and roofs, installing thermal screens for greenhouses, etc.
How to determine your annual natural gas consumption?
- For existing customers: Check your last bill or consult your customer account under the Customer Space on our website
- For future customers: Contact us for an estimate of your future consumption
Calculation of the grant¹
$1.00/m3 of natural gas saved in the first year following the implementation of an eligible measure, up to a maximum of 75% of eligible costs.
Who is the grant is intended for?
You may benefit from the efficient renovation grant if you meet the following criteria:
- You use natural gas as the principal source of energy for heating the building covered by the project, which has an annual natural gas consumption of at least 150,000 m³.
- You are an Énergir customer or about to become one.2
- You operate in one of the following activity sectors:
- Commercial
- Multi-tenant buildings with four or more units;
- Institutional
- Industrial - You plan to improve the building envelope. The work involves:
- Buildings: Insulating the buildings; Replacing windows; Sealing the buildings (elimination of air leaks);
- Greenhouses: Installing thermal screens - Your energy3 savings will be determined with the help of an engineer member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec working for a registered firm4.
- Your performance criteria exceeds NECB 1997 as described on the page 7 of the Participant's Guide.
- Send the request to participate to Énergir before starting work on the renovation project by completing the Declaration of Intent (Form I).5

For the buildings

- Before starting the work, complete and submit Form I – Declaration of Intent
- Carry out your work.
- After the work, complete and submit Form II - After work, accompanied by supporting documents
Énergir will analyze your file and will contact you, if necessary. If the project is judged to comply with program requirements, Énergir will advise you accordingly and issue a cheque.
For the greenhouses

- Carry out your work.

Énergir will analyze your file and will contact you, if necessary. If the project is judged to comply with program requirements, Énergir will advise accordingly you and issue a cheque.
Documents in force for applications submitted before July 1, 2020
Participant's Guide
- to modify or end the program without prior notice;
- to interpret the conditions of the program;
- to accept, refuse, or adjust the energy savings from any of the measures proposed by customers or other parties;
- to limit the number of projects when the budget envelope reserved for the program is depleted.
