New developments in energy efficiency
Improvements to Efficient Renovation
We are pleased to confirm that the Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs (MELCCFP) has accepted all of our requests for changes to the Global Energy Efficiency Plan, and some of our programs now have higher grants.
You can find full details about enhancements to existing programs in this Blue Bulletin.
The new terms and conditions have been available to customers since May 19, 2025.
We also invite you to see two insightful InformaTECH articles, one on the Jewish General Hospital’s energy efficiency strategy and the other on steam chests.
We have completely revised the Efficient Renovation component to encourage participants to significantly improve the energy efficiency of buildings and we’ve raised the minimum requirements.
We have also increased grants for all the eligible measures. Participants can receive up to $100,000 for:
- Windows: $70 per m² renovated
- Roofs: $8 to $25 per m² renovated
- Walls: $70 per m² renovated
- *new* Sealing: $8 per m² subject to blower door testing
Another important change is that the renovated area must now be calculated:
- For a renovated area < 2,000 m²: the participant has access to a calculator and can apply for a grant independently
- For a renovated area > 2,000 m²: the calculation must be performed by an engineer
Energy management system (EMS) enhancement
We are increasing grants for tracking and verifying the energy savings generated, from 10 cents/m3 to 50 cents/m3 saved over 3 years and up to $1M!
Change for boiler system optimization
We have decreased the number of hours of operations required for boiler systems from 4,000 to 2,000 hours. This should allow more customers to apply for a grant.
Enhancement to the grant for condensing unit heaters
Did you know that almost half the additional cost of a condensing unit heater is for installation?
To eliminate this disincentive, we have increased the grant to $4,500 per device (previously $2,900).

Jewish General Hospital: 15 years of energy efficiency excellence
For more than 15 years, Montréal’s Jewish General Hospital (JGH) has been leading the way in energy efficiency projects that have significantly reduced its energy bill and GHG emissions. This momentum comes thanks to an organizational culture driven by innovation and based on a broader understanding of the economic, environmental and human impacts of these projects.
The steam box: (Re)discovered technology to optimize paper production
Paper manufacturing is a highly energy-intensive process. Placed upstream of the presses, a steam chest can be an excellent way to reduce the energy costs and accelerate the process by improving how sheets are dried. But how can we make the most of this technology? What concrete gains can it offer? Is it a cost-effective investment? We’ve got the answers in this article.
