How does dual-energy heating work?
Electricity/natural gas
A dual-energy heating system allows you to heat with electricity at an advantageous rate for about 70% of your total consumption. When temperatures drop to very cold levels (-12°C or below)** and electricity demand is very high, natural gas takes over.
**When the temperature dips to -12° or -15°, depending on the region.

Dual energy: a winning combination for your wallet...

Year-round savings*
Thanks to your electricity distributor’s advantageous dual-energy rate, you could enjoy annual savings on your energy bills1.

Generous grants
Hydro-Québec and Énergir, with support from the Government of Québec as part of the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy, joined forces to offer you with a generous grant covering up to 80%2 of the costs of eligible work.
...and a powerful tool for managing peak demand
On extremely cold winter days, electricity consumption reaches its maximum—especially early in the morning and late in the afternoon. These high-demand periods, known as energy peaks, place significant pressure on Quebec’s power system.
To help limit the need for additional infrastructure and reduce environmental impact, Énergir and Hydro-Québec have partnered to offer dual energy.
Why it matters
- Less strain on the power system during peak periods.
- Lower greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the overall use of natural gas for space heating .
Using the right energy at the right time—a simple way to contribute to a challenge we all face.
