Énergir’s brief to the Government as part of its consultation process on the framework and development of clean energy in Québec
As part of the Government of Québec’s consultation process on the framework and development of clean energy in Québec, Énergir submitted its brief recommending a complete overhaul of the Act respecting the Régie de l’Énergie.
Énergir is fully committed to participating in the energy transition and contributing to Québec’s carbon neutrality target. However, the current regulatory environment that governs Québec’s natural gas distribution activities—which dates back almost 30 years—can no longer meet the growing challenges and is hindering the achievement of this objective while limiting our ability to act.
In this brief, Énergir makes its recommendations for a new, streamlined regulatory framework. The proposal is flexible, scalable, and promotes the optimal use of energy resources, so that Québec can be a leader, ready to face the challenges of the coming decades with an energy offer that is renewable, competitive and resilient.
Énergir believes that this modernization is essential—not only to ensure Énergir’s transformation in response to the demands of the energy transition, but to implement the decarbonization measures that Québec’s government, cities and society expect of it.
