The electricity–natural gas dual-energy heating offer is intended for Énergir residential customers whose homes are equipped with a natural gas central forced-air or hot-water heating system. It is designed for homeowners who want to upgrade their heating system and optimize their energy use with a solution that combines electricity and natural gas.
Planning your project before the heating season helps you avoid the pressure of a rushed replacement in the event of a breakdown and increases your chances of finding an available specialized contractor. It also gives you more time to choose the right solution and could allow you to benefit from your new system and the dual-energy rate before winter arrives.
Yes. If your natural gas appliance is still in good condition, you can generally keep it and simply add a compatible electric appliance.
If, on the other hand, it is nearing the end of its service life, the conversion work is an excellent opportunity to replace it with a new-generation appliance, upgrade your heating system and improve its efficiency.
Eligible residential customers benefit from Hydro-Québec’s dual-energy rate (Rate DT) or the dual-energy rate offered by their electricity distributor. This advantageous rate generally lowers the cost of electricity when the outdoor temperature is above the switchover temperature (-12°C or -15°C, depending on the region). When the temperature falls below this threshold, the system automatically switches to natural gas to heat the home.
The dual-energy rate applies to all electricity used in your home throughout the year.

1. Hydro-Québec and Énergir, with support from the Québec government under the 2030 Plan for a Green Economy, are joining forces to support customers converting to an electricity–natural gas dual-energy solution. Certain conditions apply. Grant amounts vary according to the capacity of the appliances installed and the work required for their installation. Grants paid may not exceed 80% of the incremental costs associated with purchasing and installing the appliances. Costs related to required electrical work may be added to the purchase and installation costs of the appliances. Grant conditions and amounts are subject to change without notice. 2. Residential customers equipped with an electricity–natural gas heating system may be eligible for Hydro-Québec’s Rate DT for all their household electricity use, or their electricity distributor’s dual-energy rate, where applicable.
3. Cost competitiveness and savings depend on several factors, including the type of building, the equipment used, consumption habits and the applicable rate.
4. When the temperature reaches -12°C or below, or -15°C or below, depending on the region.
5. The electrical upgrade must increase the home’s amperage to qualify for the grants.
6. For a single-family home or condo equipped with a central hot-water heating system, total financial assistance may reach $11,900, including up to $4,100 for the installation of an electric boiler and up to $7,800 for the electrical upgrade.
For a duplex equipped with a central hot-water heating system, total financial assistance may reach $12,700, including up to $4,700 for the installation of an electric boiler and up to $8,000 for the electrical upgrade.
For a triplex equipped with a central hot-water heating system, total financial assistance may reach $12,800, including up to $4,800 for the installation of an electric boiler and up to $8,000 for the electrical upgrade.
