MONTREAL, March 8, 2019 – On this International Women's Day, the Soupe pour Elles team is proud to announce that the third edition of the movement has raised more than $240,000 through the generosity of Quebecers and the business community. The campaign's signature event took place on a frigid February 27, when a crowd gathered on the Esplanade de la Place des Arts to enjoy a bowl of soup and support women in need — those who are homeless, are victims of violence or are dealing with a precarious situation. Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante also shared the stage with Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Énergir, and instigator of the Soupe pour Elles movement, for an important discussion about the situation of women in need.
Eleven organizations will receive a big helping hand
For the third edition of Soupe pour Elles, two more organizations were added to the list of organizations that benefit from the proceeds of this crowdfunding campaign, bringing the total number of beneficiary organizations to 11: La rue des femmes, Auberge Madeleine, La Maison bleue , Le chaînon, Mothers with power, Passages, La maison Marguerite, Chez Doris, Patricia McKenzie Pavilion, Logis Rose-Virginie, and LaDauphinelle.
“We set ambitious goals for this third edition, and thanks to our generous donors and partners, it has been reached. I sincerely hope that this solidarity and generosity will resonate throughout the year, because it is through small gestures that we can bring about major changes for these women in need,” said Sophie Brochu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Énergir and instigator of the Soupe for they move.
“The 11 organizations lucky enough to receive support from Soupe pour elle perform miracles with next to nothing, day after day, to help women: we feed them, give them a place to stay, protect them as best we can and help them to find a better life. The money we receive from Soupe pour Elles is a heaven-sent gift that will help us achieve our mission,” noted a grateful France Guillemette, Executive Director of LogisRose-Virginie.
