Montreal, April 28, 2022 – Énergir welcomes the 2022-27 Implementation Plan of the Plan for a Green Economy announced by the Minister of the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change, Benoît Charrette, and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Jonatan Julien.
Énergir is particularly pleased with the addition of $47.5 million to the Renewable Natural Gas Production Support Program (PSPGNR), which will see its funding increased to $260 million by 2027. The PSPGNR provides financial support for renewable natural gas (RNG) production projects and RNG integration into the natural gas distribution system.
“The additional funding provided for the PSPGNR reflects the government’s confidence in Énergir and all the stakeholders in the energy sector who are working to produce and distribute this energy that reduces greenhouse gas emissions,” said Stéphanie Trudeau, Executive Vice-President, Québec.
The Plan for a Green Economy has set a minimum target of 10% of RNG distributed on the Quebec gas network by 2030. In addition to the financial means to do so, it’s essential to set up a new regulatory framework.
Accelerating the distribution of RNG is one of the main orientations of Énergir’s Vision for decarbonizing its network.
Énergir also highlights additional support to the industrial sector for energy efficiency projects through the EcoPerformance program as well as the increased budget allocated to the waste heat recovery program for the installation of heat recovery and transfer facilities.
