Case study - Commission scolaire des Premières-Seigneuries

The Commission scolaire des Premières-Seigneuries (CSPS) has 74 schools, training centers and administrative buildings in the Québec City region. Over the years, the school board has benefited from Énergir incentives to convert some 20 buildings to natural gas and, as a result, has been saving money since 1990. Moreover, students are proud to attend a school that is doing its part for the environment . If the network covered all of CSPS's 74 buildings, they would all be fueled by natural gas.

Proactive support and conversions that really pay off

Because some of CSPS's buildings still use heating oil while others have converted to natural gas, it's easy to make a comparison. “Per square meter, natural gas is our least expensive and most efficient energy source,” states Roger Lemieux, CSPS's facilities coordinator.

Switching from used oil to natural gas has allowed the administration to get rid of old reservoirs, and has considerably reduced costs for use, maintenance, storage and supplying. This partnership based on mutual respect has clearly inspired respect in Lemieux.
